Riding Mountain Challenge: Report
Quite a few excellent cycling opportunities last weekend. Here’s a look at Team Back Alley Cycle–they took part in the MS Bike Tour: Riding Mountain Challenge
Here’s the story from a local favourite:
The four of us (Bruce, Elexis, Scott and Wendy), left Friday evening for Clear Lake. We were up at the crack of pre-dawn on Saturday to drive (the van) down to Dauphin, where we registered and were treated to a fantastic breakfast spread. Tradition, for Bruce and I, has been that on the first day we go at our own pace so that he can get the race-bug out of his system, and I can use my tried-and-true mental race strategy of “I’ll get there when I get there.”
The ride is more uphill on day one than day two, so we all climbed, and climbed, and climbed. But the weather was fantastic — no big deal. We finished and celebrated at the local watering hole with a few drinks, and then we all went for the 75 minute yoga class that was provided by Lulu Lemon. Well…Bruce and I went to have a nap, but I’m pretty sure there’s a yoga pose for that.
Day 2 — We rode as couples. There were still some hills to climb, but there were a tonne of long downhills — so much fun! The ride ended with 7 long flat miles, but it was OK, there was a chip truck (which happened to be my mantra) waiting for us at the finish line.
A great event. A great organization. Funds raised go to research as well as support for people living with MS. Like one man shared with Wendy on their way up a long hill, “The hill never wins.” Hopefully if we keep this up, maybe one day the disease won’t win, either!! :) See you next year, Riding Mountain!!
