Time Trial Princess

by on August 5, 2012

These are the ladies of the Rural Municipality of Rhineland.  All are strong competitors having recently finished either:
a. An individual time trial (last 8kms against a brutal headwind)
b. The annual pageant at the Altona Sunflower Festival

Joanne is scowling because she doesn’t believe in beauty contests, but neither does 2012 Sunflower Queen Sarah Hildebrand.  The good news is that all of these admirable women came together to celebrate the winners of the Provincial Individual Time Trial (ITT). Official results will soon be posted by the Manitoba Cycling Association, where you’ll read about gold medal performances including one from Winnipeg veteran Kim Mitchell. I was keen to examine Kim’s cycling gear, but she wanted to show off her tattoo.

Unofficially, I can tell you that the women’s open race was won by Sheena Butler–a strong competitor from the RM of Stanley.

Genevieve Krahn placed 2nd and Athena club member Sandra C. took the bronze. Margruite Krahn narrowly missed a spot on the podium, but she was sufficiently speedy to avoid being overtaken by her own daughter.

Lisa–as you know–is tough as nails, but she was dealt a devastating blow when her shoelace got caught in her bike chain. Joanne had no business being out there racing since she is still recovering from a nasty spill at the Dirt Skirt MTB race. Obviously she fell on her head ’cause even before she finished the ITT, she was already talking about racing in the Back 40 on Aug. 12th in Morden.

All hail to Back Alley Bruce, Carbon-fibre Curt, Ian Hall & Olympia Cycling Club, and our own Altona Bicycle Enthusiast Society for bringing this excellent event to the Reinland area.

If you didn’t get enough miles in during the time trial, our club will take to the streets of Altona this Tuesday night (Aug. 7th)–meet at HQ at 8 p.m. for the Women’s Weekly Ride.

      Hey Kim,
You look great with a sheaf of wheat!
I am very impressed by the Velodonnas (love that name!) and their ability to organize races for the rest of us. Yes–we’ll definitely be on the look-out for more info on the next event.

  5. Sandra D – whatever would we do without you and your posts. You make us all proud of what we accomplish, whether it’s something big or small. Your support and enthusiam is so much appreciated. Thanks for being awesome!
